Statistics for cancers in children, adolescents, and young adults

NCCR*Explorer Revision History

Below are a list of updates made to the data in the NCCR*Explorer application.

Sep 26 2024

  • The NCCR*Explorer application was updated to include incidence and survival estimates based on North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program registry submissions through diagnosis year 2021.
  • The dataset used for this release represents 75% of the U.S. population and includes the following 28 NCCR cancer registries: Arkansas, California (3 registries: Greater Bay, Greater California, Los Angeles), Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Seattle (Puget Sound), Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin.
  • U.S. complete prevalence estimates for persons diagnosed with a childhood (ages <20) cancer were updated to reflect complete prevalence estimates for January 1, 2021. The estimates provided were calculated from SEER Program registries and projected to the entire U.S. using U.S. population estimates. For more information on prevalence, please see Cancer Prevalence Statistics Overview.
  • The time period for displaying 'Recent Trends' was modified from 1999 to 2001. The start year for incidence trends was changed to 2001 to ensure that all cases contributing to trends were initially coded using the ICD-O-3 coding schema. Trends for site II.d. Miscellaneous Lymphoreticular Neoplasms, were further truncated to diagnosis years 2010+ to reflect changes in behavior coding that increased the number of cases reportable as malignant instances of the disease.
  • Due to the Impact of COVID on SEER Cancer Incidence 2020 data, the 2020 incidence rates are not used in the fit of the Joinpoint trend line(s). Where applicable, the 2020 incidence rates are still displayed on the graphs and data tables.

Nov 6 2023

  • The ability to compare the complete prevalence estimates by cancer site was added to the application.
  • The application now provides buttons to 'Select all' and 'Clear all' options in the 'Select Cancer Sites' window.

Sep 8 2023

  • The labels for incidence rates were corrected to read "Rate per 1,000,000". The labels incorrectly stated "Rate per 100,000" in the update that was posted on September 7, 2023.

Sep 7 2023

  • The NCCR*Explorer application was updated to include incidence and survival estimates based on North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program registry submissions through diagnosis year 2020.
  • The dataset used for this release represents 70% of the U.S. population and includes the following 25 NCCR cancer registries: Arkansas, California (3 registries: Greater Bay, Greater California, Los Angeles), Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Seattle (Puget Sound), Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin.
  • U.S. complete prevalence estimates for persons diagnosed with a childhood (ages <20) cancer were added to the application. The estimates provided were calculated from SEER Program registries and projected to the entire U.S. using U.S. population estimates. For more information on prevalence, please see Cancer Prevalence Statistics Overview.
  • Due to the Impact of COVID on SEER Cancer Incidence 2020 data, the 2020 incidence rates are not used in the fit of the Joinpoint trend line(s), and the risk of developing cancer is based on underlying estimates for the year range 2017-2019.
  • The Purchased/Referred Care Delivery Area (PRCDA) county definition used for American Indians/Alaska Natives estimates was updated from the PRCDA 2017 definition to the PRCDA 2020 definition.

Dec 16 2022

  • Data update to the NCCR*Explorer application including incidence and survival estimates based on North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program registry submissions through diagnosis year 2019.
  • The dataset used for this release represents 69% of the U.S. population and includes the following 24 NCCR cancer registries: California (3 registries: Greater Bay, Greater California, Los Angeles), Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Seattle (Puget Sound), Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin.

Oct 21 2022

  • A new feature was added to the Recent Trends graph for Incidence statistics. An information panel can now be displayed next to the graph that shows the Annual Percent Change (APC) estimates for the trend lines shown on the graph. To show the APCs, check the 'View APC' checkbox located above the graph.

  • Initial release of the NCCR*Explorer application including incidence and survival estimates based on North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program registry submissions through diagnosis year 2018.
  • The dataset used for this release represents 66% of the U.S. population and includes the following 23 NCCR cancer registries: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Seattle (Puget Sound), Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin.
